The Hospital
Maisie wakes up from a month-long coma in the hospital after her accident happens. She is at first stunned and afraid of her new surroundings and is even more shocked after learning what had happened. At the hospital, Maisie meets Marnie and Dr. Boden. Maisie has her surgery there and then stays for a few weeks to recover.
Maisie's House/Neighborhood
Maisie's neighborhood is where the book begins, with Maisie running through a field when a storm approaches. Soon, Maisie tries to run back but is instead caught in electrical fire due to a nearby tree and powerline being struck by lightning.
Maisie's high school is where she has to learn to adjust the most. Maisie has to see people who knew the old Maisie, people who knew what happened to her. It is at Maisie's school where Maisie hears Chirag talking about being her "nurse" and has to endure the pity put upon her from teachers.
